DCE provides proactive support for the University of Florida’s Distance Learning mission by coordinating resources for developing and administering distance learning courses and programs. The unit is also responsible for the administration of the UF Flexible Learning Program aimed at providing access to students across the nation who would like to enroll in a UF online course as a non-degree seeking student.
DCE is responsible for managing institutional collaborations and memberships in the following organizations:
DCE serves as host for the Online Program Support group which is composed of faculty and staff responsible for administering online distance learning programs. If you would like to join this group please send an email request to firstname.lastname@example.org.
DCE is responsible for assisting academic units with seeking approval for and administration of Distance Learning Fees associated with online courses. For information, instruction and a process calendar on how to apply for approval of a Distance Learning fee please visit the Office of the Associate Provost for Teaching & Technology webpage. If you have any questions please contact Chris Newsom at Distance & Continuing Education.
With the growth of online courses the focus of insuring the authentication of the students taking these courses and especially taking online assessment is a growing concern. The University of Florida proactively addresses these areas by working with partners ProctorU and ProctorFree who are our preferred online student authentication and online proctoring providers.
The university policy for online assessments and proctoring is that any assessment that equals 15% or more of a student’s final course grade should be utilizing online authentication and proctoring resources.
